Dave: Have you ever tried shopping at Target or K-Mart? I have, and I find their prices to be pretty reasonable. The people of Chico elected the majority (six members) of the council, expecting them to make precisely decisions like this one. Ever notice that there's only one conservative on the council? Folks demonstrated they don't want conservative thinking running the city. Regarding the four who voted against the expansion ... one is an attorney, one is a retired highway patrolman, one works in Glenn County in the public sector, and one owns a small bike shop downtown -- the only one who might suffer from a larger Wal-Mart, though I doubt it because her business is still doing well and Wal-Mart already sells bicycles. So, try again. The only ones who benefit when a Wal-Mart opens or expands is Wal-Mart itself, not fools like you who think they're getting a great deal by saving a nickel on a pack of toilet paper. There was a noteworthy study a few years back that showed CONCLUSIVELY that Wal-Mart workers' salaries are so low that those workers usually need public assistance, thus INCREASING the burden on the taxpayers. But, hey -- you're saving money! And for you, watching out for Number One, saving money is what it's all about! Dave, I know I've used some big words here and tossed some pretty heavy bits of information at you. Still, you need to get a clue ... look beyond the money you "save" and consider what Wal-Mart has done to our society. Perhaps you don't care. You might just think those extra few bucks in your pocket make it all worthwhile. But Wal-Mart isn't entirely to blame -- suckers like you keep shopping there!

SHOCKED AND DISAPPOINTED with the Chico City Council. What has turned out to be an "Extortion" of Walmart by our city council, will it eventually bite those 4 members in the butt come election time.... They turned down a project that would definitely help thousands that live in Chico and the surrounding area, to try to blackmail Walmart into doing more. Even when Walmart agreed to additional benefits to Chico, the council still balked. What was on their mind, especially with todays economy.... Someday, everyone will look back and wonder if they did the wrong thing, and now it's too late. The council apparently had something else on their minds instead of helping the people that voted them in. I personally experienced (in other cities) where I lived, when a Super Walmart was approved, Everybody gained from it, Everybody found things more affordable. The people of Chico and the surrounding area's greatly suffered from this vote and I hope everyone will remember the 4 council members that kept us from having a more affordable store in Chico. It appears to me, some selfish business owners(those that probably never have to shop at Walmart)were the core of not wanting the Walmart expansion. They probably never did, or ever will, have to shop in a Walmart to save money. Their GREED won out. THE PEOPLE LOST THIS ONE !!! I wonder----could it possibly be that the expansion of Walmart would would adversly affect one of these 4 councilmen? I wonder----Is this descrimination against Walmart? Did the city council require Cost Co., or Winco, Lowe's, Home Depot or other business in Chico to the same demands?????? This is a Sad Day for Chico.

I am extremely disappointed that Chico denied the Wal Mart expansion. Maybe Wal Mart should close in Chico completely and take their store to a place in the surrounding areas that would appreciate the great prices and jobs for so many people!

I wish wallmart would decide to build their super store in Paradise where I live. Then we wouldn't have to pay higher prices for shoping at the local stores. All we have here for decent groceries is Grocery Outlet and Kmart where you always weight a long time in lines to check out and the prices are higher than walmart. Most of us up here are retired and on fixed incomes. We now have to drive to Chico to get the best bang for our buck.

Wahl says get rid of the problem by completely eliminating marijuana grows both indoors and outdoors. What about the State of California law that says these sort of grows are legal, Mr. Wahl?

I'm still shocked as ever to read this...it makes me angry and brings back bad nightmares. Who do they think they are to let them go on trial? They've done enough and to make it straight to the point they should die for there mistakes, they've already killed too many people to count. The families already suffered enough. -Chelsea(chico)

My husband and I are jackie's guardians. She is our grandaughter. While her medical expenses will carry a hefty monthly co-pay, she has health insurance coverage. However, expenses not covered include housing in Sacramento, gas, eating out, and on and on. My daughter (her mother) is especially stressed by the costs of transportation. I implore all parents to get your children vaccinated. The vaccine was not yet available in our county. It is available now - protect your childrn.

I would like to add,in what is not mentioned here, is that my daughter actually resides with my parents and my concern is the medical bills that are going to fall into their lap when all is said and done. For myself, it's simply a shortage of gas money. Thank you to George and Gini and everyone at Woodson Bridge RV park and everyone else who has so generously responded. debbie and dave clark
