Kris has over 6 years combined experience forecasting weather in the North State. You may remember him when he worked at Action News from 2000 to 2003. He also worked in Redding from 1995 to 1998. Outside of the North State, Kris has experience forecasting weather in the challenging climates of Alaska, Colorado, and the not so challenging climate of Bakersfield!
Kris was one of the first meteorologists in the country to have earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society, or AMS. To earn this designation, a broadcaster must have a degree in meteorology, have their weather casts evaluated by the AMS, and pass an extensive academic exam. He has also earned his Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association. Kris graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science.
Kris' wife Jennifer must also love weather, because they were married in the pouring rain at One Mile in Bidwell Park!
They have 2 wonderful children. Their son Dylan was born in Alaska, and their daughter Kaitlyn was born in Paradise.
Kris says 2 of his biggest thrills besides the birth of his children were running the Olympic Torch Relay through Sacramento in January of 2002, and broadcasting weather live on 'Good Morning America' with Spencer Christian during the Asphalt Cowboys Pancake Breakfast in Redding in1998. And that time he and Jennifer were charged by a moose in downtown Anchorage!
