A
group of friends who love to quilt are using their talents to create "comfort quilts" ... for children in crisis, and wounded soldiers. They gather regularly at the Casa Des Flores clubhouse in Chico to swap stories and quilting tips....while stitching quilts, beautiful quilts, that anyone would love to receive. Their creations are delivered to local law enforcement and hospitals, to give to children.....and to wounded soldiers hospitalized in Maryland.
"I think somebody that put their life on the line every day to protect our life it's important to thank them whatever way you're able to." That's Marilyn Simpson, who made her first quilt in 1998. Since then she's made 100's of them,"I just fell in love with it. I like to do quilts for people that need them instead of just for myself."
Simpson...a retired teacher...jokes that quilting keeps her busy and out of trouble. But mostly .... it's something all of these women enjoy. The quilt recipients don't know their names, as thanks and recognition are not what it's all about.
"It just gives me a good felling and every stitch that i make ...thoughts, love and caring go into them."
Some of their beautiful work will be on display at a quilt show at Paradise Park on Pearson Road, July Fourth.
