This year's "Miss Butte County" is Marcee Boggs. As you're about to see... there's much more to Marcee than just another pretty face. The 19-year-old from Butte Valley has dedicated herself to helping and mentoring kids.

Working on the farm is a big part of life for Marcee Boggs.
Marcee says, "4-H is my number 1 activity. I've been in 4-H for 14 years and it's consumed my life in the best ways possible."
As she has for most of her life, Marcee is spending time this summer getting ready for Gridley.
Marcee says, "i've always been involved with the Butte County Fair, I love the fair, love all the staff."
But this year is different...this is her last fair...her last chance to add to her extensive collection of ribbons and trophies.
Marcee says, "I worked extremely hard to get where I am, but all I want to do now is to be there to teach kids and help kids and watch them grow like I have."
From competitor to mentor.
Miss Teen Butte County Danielle Hart says, "I knew her through 4-H for being basically the queen at 4-H. She earns so much and she gets those huge belt buckles and I really look up to her. She's a really good role model to me."
Marcee was fortunate to follow in the footsteps of her own role model, her older sister Danielle Horn.
Danielle says, "as a little kid she always tried hard, and went so far beyond what I ever could have done."
Along the way, Marcee decided that she wanted to compete in the Miss Butte County pageant. She was Miss Teen Butte County in 2009, and brought her support team with her when she was crowned Miss Butte County last year.
Danielle says, "we were pretty much crying, all pretty excited, we put a lot into."
Representing the royal court has allowed her to focus on her greatest passion...sign language.
Marcee says, "in high school I had a hard of hearing friend and interpreter in every one of my classes, so I'd listen to the teacher but watch the interpreter and pick up signs that way."
And she plans to turn that passion into a full-time job one day...helping others less fortunate than herself...and she'll never forget the lessons that she learned through 4-H.
Marcee says, "I love giving back to my community. They've done so much for me that with all the different activities I do it gives me an opportunity to give back."
Marcee and the other members of the royal court will crown a new set of Miss Butte County Queens at the Butte County Fair August 23rd through the 26th.
