Ashley Hamm says, "it's an ongoing battle...10 million baby boomers will come down with Alzheimers if we don't find a cure."

It's a disease that affects the elderly...but that's not stopping 13-year-old Ben Simas from remembering to do his part.

Ben says, "I'm hoping to stop Alzheimers before it gets to my generation"

Ben first took part in the Alzheimer's Memory Walk when he was eleven.

Ben says, "my Mom started walking a few years ago and invited me...I had fun and just kept doing it."

This year, he decided to take a bigger step and become a team captain in the Alzheimers Association's annual fundraising event in Bidwell Park on October 10th.

Ashley says, "it's a chance for people like Ben to come out and raise funds and help to support our programs locally and to fund research."

Ben's teacher at C.K. Price Middle School in Orland is very impressed with his drive and determination.

Jennifer Feller says, "getting involved with a group that a lot of kids his age don't even think about...walking for Alzheimers and the Memory Walk...hoping he'll inspire others"

Ashley says, "Ben is my only teenage team captain this year, he's pretty special."

Not simply content to show up for the walk...Ben is holding a fundraiser for his team at the Round Table Pizza in Orland on September 22...but he doesn't consider his efforts anything special.

Ben says, "it's an easy thing to do and it helps a good cause."

Jennifer says, "kids like him make teaching really fun and enjoyable...those are the ones that come along every once in a while that we feel like we can touch."
