Action News recently put the call out to all Butte County high schools to help Dynamic Duo candidates Nitin Lal and Cindy Nixon raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters by holding a coin drive.Only two schools stepped up to the challenge to see who could collect the most.
"It was a competition between all the classes and who ever won out of the classes gets a pizza party," says Paradise High senior Lindsay Weins.
That kicked off a weeklong coin drive at Paradise High School.
Senior Daniel Indaburu says, "It wasn't just coins coming in we even got a check for $100."
When we approached Paradise High about the fundraiser they couldn't wait to get started.
Their goal was to raise the most money.
"The kids we're well behind it and I think we're going to come out on top," says the student activities advisor, Ryan Logelin.
But Paradise has some competition from Oroville's Las Plumas High School.
"We took buckets and put them in certain classes and we had all the 4th period classes donate money," says Las Plumas senior Tylar Ramage.
The class that collects the most gets a pizza party as well and Las Plumas is it to win it.
"We're going to go win we're going to beat Paradise, our schools really involved. We want to win,” says senior Laura Cullum.
As much as this is a competition to see which school raises the most money students say they're doing it because they believe in Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization.
"We're pretty excited because it is for a good cause and we're trying to bring younger kids to get involved with an adult mentor. So it's a really good program to be involved in," says Cullum.
Paradise High School junior Stephanie Zinn says, " it's kind of nice to give back something and to make life better for some people."
Action News will announce how much each high school raised on NBC 24 Action News on October 29th.
