Melissa Carr has just completed a unique "triple crown"...she is the first person to be named Missette...Miss Teen...and just last month was crowned Miss Butte County at the Butte County Fair in Gridley.
Melissa says, "it's an amazing opportunity to serve the community in ways that you wouldn't have been able to otherwise."
But there's so much more to this Biggs High School senior than just another pretty face.
Georgianne says, "she stands out in the crowd among students."
Bill says, "she has great people skills, and can pull kids, staff, community together."
Melissa is a cheerleader and student body president...and she's in the College Connection program at Butte College.
Melissa says, "if I have enough drive, motivation...I don't think anything's impossible to do."
And the staff at Biggs High School appreciates her enthusiasm and positive attitude.
Georgianne says, "no matter what she decides to do she's gonna do it...I've never seen so much perseverance ever"
Dawn says, "she's one of those students that just thrives and shines...I know she's going to be successful"
This seventeen-year-old spends a lot of time mentoring her classmates.
Melissa says, "one of the things that I stand for is showing young girls that you don't have to be a cookie cutter girl."
Bill says, "she cares about kids whether they're out for sports, doing poorly in class, come from difficult homes, she connects with all these kids and makes them feel important."
And what's important to her?
Melissa says, "it's not important to be popular, it's more important to have goals and succeed in what makes you happy".
