It's not just Fed-Ex that's slammed this time of year. With less than two weeks until Christmas the mad rush to get holiday packages shipped off has officially begun and time is running short for them to arrive before the big day. If you're loaded down with holiday packages that need to get somewhere before Christmas you better act now. Post Master Ann from the Chico Post Office said, "it does take a little bit of patients in scheduling and strategy on how to get it all done."
Monday is the busiest shipping day of the year. The Chico Post Office estimates 14,000 packages will be sent out today alone and 175,000 packages will be moved in the month of December. "We will see an influx again this week and next week with the extra week of shipping I venture it will be just as busy," said Ann.
118 postal employees are working hard every morning from two until late evening and with the busy weeks ahead they are beefing up on staff so they have more hands to handle the holiday rush. Ann said, "we bring all our staff up when it gets real busy and we try and get everybody taken care of as soon as possible with everything they need."
"Everybody here is very nice their always really helpful whenever we have to ship something they've been really good to us," said customer Pam Boyer.
Many are hustling to ensure their packages get delivered on time. Customer Sara Avila said, "I'm shipping off some of my grandparents Christmas gifts just trying to get them out of state in time."
"Usually we send off about seven packages this year less because we actually get to go see family." said Pam.
If you want your holiday package to arrive on time, then the last day you should mail out is the Friday before the 25th or you can use express shipping which will ship your package over night.
