On Wednesday, Butte County health officials confirmed the first swine flu death in the county. An elderly man with several other health conditions died from the H1-N1 virus. No other information was released about the man.
To date there are 146 confirmed cases of swine flu in Butte County. There have been 40 people hospitalized with the virus, with more than a dozen other cases landing patients in intensive care.
Health officials are recommending H1-N1 vaccines for high risk groups, those include pregnant women, people six months to 24 years old, health care workers and people with pre-existing conditions. If you are in these groups, you should contact your doctor to check on vaccinations.
Children in the Chico Unified School District can get a free swine flu vaccination at the district's last flu shot clinic. It will be held Thursday, November 19th at Pleasant Valley High School from 3:45pm-7:45pm. Only children will be vaccinated.
