Written statement from Casey Holmes mother: "Private First Class Casey Holmes, a 2011 Chico High School graduate was killed last night, March 11, 2013 while participating in training maneuvers in 29 Palms, Southern California.
Casey was born and raised in Chico. He attended Notre Dame School, Hooker Oak , Chico Jr. and Chico High Schools.
Casey joined the Marines in May 2012. Casey was honored with a Meritorious Promotion at his basic Marine graduation in August for scoring a perfect physical fitness score of 300. He was the most physically fit marine in his company.
Casey is remembered for his tenacity of spirit and his loving nature. Casey dearly loved his family and friends. Casey was happy to serve his country and was proud of his success in the Marine Corp."
