The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department is are investigating human remains found in the south county area.
Due to the nature and circumstances, a sheriff's spokesperson said the remains, bones and bone fragments, are being sent Chico State for further analysis by forensic anthropologists.
As the remains are analyzed the Detectives Bureau will be investigating if they are related to any open investigations, including cold cases and missing person’s reports.
Sheriff Jon Lopey stated, “Due to the location and state of the remains we will not be releasing any more information until detectives and anthropologists have completed their investigations. As with all investigations and analysis we will be utilizing all available technologies including DNA tests. We are considering the possibility that these may be related to missing persons cold cases and do not want to jeopardize those investigations until we can clearly identify the remains that were located.”
Authorities are also not yet saying what led to the discovery of the remains.
