Shasta County is now among those distributing the much-anticipated H1N1 or swine flu vaccine. The county's public health department received 4,200 doses of the vaccine on Friday.
81 Shasta County providers have already put in orders for the vaccine. But most of those orders have yet to be filled. Previously the county only had the vaccine's nasal spray version, but the latest shipment includes the injectable version.
Roxanne Burke of Shasta County Health and Human Services said "we decided the best way to get shots into people first is to go through providers who have already agreed to give this vaccine to patients and health care workers in priority groups."
The 4,200 vaccines will be limited to children between 6 months and 9 years old, pregnant women, people who care for children under 6 months and health care workers. The Shasta County Public Health Department is also expecting another 28,000 doses sometime next month.
