The Chico Town and Gown Committee is gathering Wednesday night, looking for ways to make large events more safe for attendees.  During the annual Labor Day Float on the Sacramento River, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student Brett Olson, 20, went missing.  Toxicology results have not come in yet from the Glenn County Coroner, but his friends say he was drinking.  Many suspect he was drunk and fell off his floatation device and into the river.  A fisherman found his body exactly two weeks later.
An estimate 10,000 people floated the river that weekend, prompting many to ask if it would be more safe for floaters to ban alcohol on the water.
Wednesday night, the committee will look at different alternatives to present to the Chico City Council.  Stay tuned to Action News tonight for an update on that meeting.
