The California Highway Patrol says the driver on a Chevy Sequoia was headed south on Pentz Road just past Durham Pentz near Paradise around 9:45 Saturday night. Investigators say the driver went off the road then skidded sideways across the road, went off the edge, and landed on a tree. The SUV then burst into flames. Another driver who witnessed the crash tried to pull the driver from the burning vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not clear if alcohol was a factor in this crash.
