Friday marked the 71st anniversary of the devastating Japanese attack that pulled the United States into World War II.
Several local survivors were on hand for a ceremony at the Gridley-Biggs ceremony to honor their fallen comrades and share their memories with their fellow veterans.
A two bell toll was sounded throughout the ceremony to honor the fallen sailors.
There was also a 21 gun salute and the playing of taps.
The survivors in attendance say December seventh has been a difficult day at times ... but being around other veterans has helped.
Action News spoke with Pearl Harbor Survivor Vere Gardner of Gridley,"It took me a long while before I could talk about it, but I get to pretty good now. I still have flashbacks though."
A table setting was also laid out with a red rose to honor the blood shed during the battle ... and a glass of water to quench the service men's thirst for freedom.
This is the second year a ceremony has been held at the Gridley-Biggs ceremony and organizers hope to continue with the annual event.###
