The Kiwanis Chico Community Observatory in Chico's Bidwell Park will extend it's hours to three a.m. Sunday to provide the chance for guests to view the annual Perseid Meteor Showers.
They're created by the dust trail formed by the Swift-Tuttle Comet, when it passed through the inner solar system in 1862.
Each year between August 11th and the 13th the Earth passes through a cloud of microscopic particles ... creating bright streaks of light as they burn up in the Earth's atmosphere.
The Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and The Shasta Astronomy Club are also holding a star gazing party at Brandy Creek Parking Lot "B" .
Blankets, chairs and extra clothing for the cool night air are encouraged.####
