Redding Police are asking for the public's help to identify a man killed in an accident Wednesday night. The unidentified man was killed when he was hit by a car as he tried to walk across Lake Boulevard in Redding. The collision happened around 6:30pm Wednesday on Lake Boulevard near Black Marble Drive.
According to a press release from the Redding Police Department, the driver, 62-year-old Andy Wangstad of Kent, Washington, was driving a Ford Focus east on Lake Boulevard on a green light. The unidentified pedestrian was wearing a black sweatshirt as he tried to cross against the red light. The pedestrian walked out in front of the car.
Wangstad told police he did not see the pedestrian, and was unable to avoid the collision.
The pedestrian was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The pedestrian is described as a white man, approximately 40 years old, brown hair, 6 feet tall weighing 200 pounds.
