The Red Bluff City Council takes the first step towards permanently banning medical marijuana in the city. The council voted 4-to-1 in favor of an ordinance permanently banning both cultivation and distribution of medical marijuana within city limits. The ordinance will be up for final approval during its second reading November 17th.
The council also approved a temporary 45-day ban that takes effect immediately. The ban has drawn criticism from medical marijuana advocates who say it violates Proposition 215. But city officials say the proposition does not override the city's zoning authority.
