People in Redding are also getting ready for the next wave of wet weather. Many people were loading up on sandbags for their homes, so many in fact, that the city was forced to change the way in which those bags are given away.
They're the hottest item in town, Redding went through more than 8,000 sandbags on Tuesday.
“I have never seen them go this fast, and I think people are just trying to prepare themselves for this storm,” said Randy Campbell, a supervisor for the Redding Streets Department, which overseas sandbags.
Not everyone was playing by the rules on Tuesday, forcing the city to monitor the process on Wednesday, so everyone had a chance at flood protection.
“I heard stories that people were grabbing a couple bundles which is a 100 to a bundle and they would grab 1 or 2 bundles,” said Campbell.
But on Wednesday there was a shift, some people were still filling up more than the 25 bag limit, but this time it was a good deed.
“I know I did like 100 yesterday. I have no idea how many I have done today, I have done probably close to another hundred today,” said Blake Mason.
As often happens during natural disasters, people were helping out neighbors in need.
“There were a lot of people out here that were kinda having a hard time, some older folks, some single parents and I thought it would be a good nice thing to do,” said Mason.
Wesley Babcock had the same idea as he and his daughters worked for an hour helping others.
“It just started off with a lady that could not fill her bags, so lets fill her bags, and then more people could not fill their bags, and then it was fun,” said Babcock.
The group definitely understood why others needed help, they experienced their own flooding last week and were preparing their home Wednesday afternoon.
“I am actually pretty worried about it because it actually has flooded from the back, down all the way through the garage,” said Babcock.
