According to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, two people were kayaking at Clear Creek Sunday afternoon, when one capsized.  The man told deputies that he tried to help his female companion flip over when she got loose from the kayak and floated downstream.  The area is filled with rushing water, and the terrain in the area is rugged.  Authorities brought in a rescue helicopter to try to locater, and dive teams searched the area.  As night fell, they spotted something in the water but couldn't get to it.  They are not sure if it is the victim, or a piece of her clothing.  They plan to resume their search in the morning.  At this point, they are calling it a recovery mission.  The victim has not been identified, but the couple is from the Bay Area.
