Cold weather brought a dusting of snow to higher elevation areas of the North State today and that means a few lucky communities were fortunate enough to have a white Christmas.
What better way to celebrate a white Christmas, than by putting the snow to good use, under ski's or a board.
“Well it is something that we do. We have been doing it for about 6 years, its kinda like a tradition,” said Lane Sellers, a snowboarder.
“They open up their presents early in the morning and then they come up and use all their new skis and new toys they just got and have a blast,” said John Kennedy, a ski instructor.
Die-hard riders choose to hit the slopes on Christmas because, while everyone else is at home, they have the mountain to themselves.
“There are a lot of people out here but not as many as i am used to, so its nice, you have open runs and its nice,” said Conner Saucier.
And on a day like today, who could ask for better conditions.
“It’s like champagne powder today, this is a very rare occasion to get the beautiful snow we have. Super light, super cold, it’s just super light and fully, it’s the best snow we have had in a long time,” said Kennedy.
“I have never snowboarded in such nice powder actually,” said Conner Saucier.
Last year, the Ski Park was closed on Christmas because there was no snow.
“So it is really nice that they got open this year and we got a good storm coming in,” said Lane Sellers.
But with such good conditions this Christmas, even falling can be fun.
“Yeah I am, I love falling, that is the best part about it,” said Reid Saucier.
