Human bones have been discovered along the Sacramento River in Redding in the area of a homeless encampment.

The discovery occurred Wednesday when a work crew was clearing a homeless encampment on the east side of the Sacramento River near the Cypress Avenue Bridge, according to Redding police.

Forensics experts from Chico State University are assisting the Shasta County Coroner's Office with this case. But a preliminary investigation indicates the remains are at least a year old, according to investigators.
