National Signing Day represented a big moment for a couple of Central Valley Falcons this morning, as best friends Colton Silveria and Curtis Frisbie both signed letters of intent to take their games to the next level.
Action Sports Ross Field was on hand and has the story about two best friends who are about to take separate paths in college.
Central Valley High Seniors Colton Silveria and Curtis Frisbie have been good buddies since they were little kids.
Frisbie says, "me and Colton have been best friends since we started football together when were I think five."
Silveria adds, "we used to swim together, ride BMX, ride motorcycles, snowboard, wakeboard together, all that kind of stuff."
And on a day when high school athletes all across the country decide which college they would like to attend, Colton and Curtis are headed their separate ways. Its not out of choice, but simply because each one excels in a different sport.
Frisbie, an all-state high school baseball player, has signed a letter of intent to play for University of Nevada-Reno. The three-year varisty starter finished first in the state with 59 RBI's as a Junior last year and also slugged 13 home runs.
Central Valley baseball coach Bob Anderson says, "they're getting an exceptional athlete who can run, hit with power, even though he doesn't look like it."
Frisbie adds, "it's been one of my dreams ever since I've been little to go play college ball so I'm super excited to go."
Silveria, an outstanding Running Back, has chosen to play football for UC Davis. Although his Senior season was cut short by an ankle injury, this bruising back still rushed for over 2,300 yards in his three seasons at the varsity level.
Central Valley football coach Matt Hunsaker says, "there's nobody that worked harder in the weight room, he never missed a work out and I think Davis has got a gold mine."
Silveria adds, "I kinda feel like I'm waiting for my life to start."
And although the time is approaching for these two stellar Falcon athletes to spread their wings and fly into the next chapter of their lives, both Curtis and Colton will make sure to stay in touch.
Silveria says, "I'm gonna be going to his baseball games, he's going to come down and watch some football, I'll try to get him some sideline tickets or something."
Frisbie adds, "it's been a long road but we're happy to do it together."
