The Street Stocks division at the Silver Dollar Speedway has gained tons of popularity over the past few years, but for longtime driver Phil Marino, his passion for these cars is nothing new.

Phil Marino has raced stock cars for around 15 years now and is proud to be a part of the division.

Marino says, "Sprint cars are awesome. They're awesome machines, they're fun to watch, exciting and all that, but stock cars take a little bit more ingenuity."

Especially when you consider that Marino has to create his own parts.

Marino says, "These parts have to be made weekly, after a weekend of racing whether it be one night or two nights. Everything has to be taken apart, cleaned, looked at, make sure nothing's bent, broken. You can't just scab it together, you gotta do it right."

And thus far the man known as Phil The Thrill has been doing it right. He's won 3 main events and leads the Street Stocks division where he's hoping to add a 3rd track title to his resume.

Marino says, "I didn't set out to win a title this year. I just wanted to have a good time, but I got a early lead in points, so I think I'm gonna try to hold onto it as long as I can."

But even more than that, what Marino really wants is for the Street Stocks division to grow and prosper.

Marino says, "I just want to encourage other guys or girls if they wanna go racing, hey it's not that hard, it can be done. And I wanna see more people at the race track doing this class. It's affordable, it won't break you. You know I'm willing to help anybody that wants to get involved, if they wanna get involved I'll help 'em, knowledge or whatever, however I can."

With the Silver Dollar Minute, I'm Lee Carrell for Action Sports.
