In this week's Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week, we take a look at a multi-sport star from Hamilton high school whose competitive juices push him past the competition in and out of the classroom.

Whether he's plowing over defenders en route to the end-zone,, or mowing down batters from the pitchers mound, there's nothing Hamilton high junior Andrew Shippelhoute loves more than the competition, even if it just involves fishing with his friends.

"You know there's a little canal that goes behind the back of our school and me and my buddies we brought our fishing poles and we had a competition to see who could catch more during break so everything just comes a little easier when you have that competitive nature and the drive to accomplish," said Shippelhoute.

For Shippelhoute, that drive also transfers to the classroom where he carries a 3.4 GPA.

"I just try to get good grades as much as I possibly can. You know it gets hard with sports and everything sometimes and having a social life buy you have to start in the books and then get to all the stuff later," said Shippelhoute.

Shippelhoute is currently playing his favorite sport, baseball, and this pitcher is dominating. In six appearances, he has a 1.21 ERA and 42 strikeouts, the most in the Northern Section.

"I like my fastball, it's always been my go to pitch. If you know your defense is going to make the plays and your catcher is going to do his job, it just makes the whole pitching so much easier because you don't have anything to worry about except for throwing strikes and getting batters out," said Shippelhoute.

Something he's been very successful at so far this season.
