After a big win 2-1 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday the Chico State women's soccer team improved to 8-4-8 overall, 6-2-8 in the CCAA, and claimed first place in the North Division. The Lady Cats now turn their attention to the post season.
It's a great feeling that Head Coach Kim Sutton and her lady Wildcats have grown accustomed too, participating in post season soccer.
Kim Sutton says, "its good for the program and its great for them, they deserve it and its just where we want to be at this time of the year."
For the third time in the past four seasons, the Cats claimed first place in the CCAA North division and now turn their attention to the conference championship tournament this weekend at Cal State Stanislaus.
Kasey Wall says, "I remember running my sprints over summer and just dying, trying to work as hard as possible for my teammates, for myself, to be the best player I could and to see all that hard work, a whole entire season has gone by and now we're here and everything has been worth it and that's just awesome."
The Wildcats will open up tournament play as the No. 4 seed against top-seeded Cal State L.A. Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles handed Chico State one of its two losses in CCAA action, a 2-1 victory earlier this season in southern California. This time around, the Cats are hungry for revenge.
Lisa Webster adds, "we were a little off that game so I think we have it all together right now so we're ready to fire it up and go in."
A good performance this weekend is crucial because it could determine whether or not Chico State gets a bid to the NCAA tournament, a step that this team desperately wants to take.
