For any high school athlete the ultimate dream is to have college paid for, with the help of his or her athletic abilities.
Sometimes the task takes longer than expected but for this local baseball player, better late than never, never sounded so good.
As a baseball player for Chico High and the Chico Nuts American Legion team, Andy Quiring always wanted to attend a division one college and now he's made his dream come true by accepting a partial scholarship to play for Pac-10 powerhouse Oregon State.
Andy Quiring says, "I'm definitely excited, I've been watching OSU baseball since I was a Freshman in high school, ever since I was back here at Chico high so once I got that call, I knew that was pretty much where I wanted to end up."
When Oregon State won back to back national titles in 2006 and 2007, Quiring was in Omaha, Nebraska playing summer ball with the Nuts and enjoyed watching every pitch.
Andy Quiring adds, "just being there, seeing the atmosphere and seeing all the intensity and passion that these guys play for, it's just something that really drives you as a baseball player to want to get to that level and everybody else has aspirations of getting there and having dreams of actually playing in Omaha one day and going to Oregon State is just going to have a really good chance of hopefully competing in Omaha and making a run at it."
Quiring spent the last two years at Feather River College where his play really started opening the eyes of division one schools. In 2009, he hit over .400 and scored 56 runs and he knows maintaining that type of productivity at a higher level will be tough.
Andy Quiring says, "as a baseball player, you really just have to work hard every day, because you know everybody is going to be about the same level as you are if not better once you start getting up to the higher levels and so that just means you need to put more work in the weight room, more work taking groundballs, hitting off a tee or something like that, as long as you keep working hard, good things are going to happen for you."
With that mind state, Quiring should be a solid addition to the Oregon State Beavers.
