A crowded Yuba County Government Center Thursday evening, as attendees coming from all over the North State were given the opportunity to express their opinions about what kind of health care reform they want.
Marysville resident Harvey Teel said, "It shows that the majority of these town hall meetings are against this health care plan. Why cannot President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, Senators Boxer and Feinstein see this? Or are they going to go in their own agenda and jam this down your throat anyway?"
Congressman Wally Herger hosted the event. He opposes President Obama's health care reform plan, claiming it will cost citizens more and will require higher taxes. He explained while pointing at a chart, "Here's the doctor. Here's you, work your way through and here's the doctor. The way the system is now, is a short thing and that's in addition to what we have now, and you know what? I have a lot of concerns about that."
Republicans, democrats and even health care specialists participated during the meeting. With recent shouting matches and ruckus happening in other town hall meetings all over the country, participants say overall, this public forum was a passionate respectful event. Virginia Black told Action News, "I think the majority here came for the right reasons and it's really nice to see democracy here at work here in our own community."
Congressman Wally Herger will hold two additional town hall meetings this coming week:
