If you're trying to conceive but not having any success, you're probably encouraged by all the new technology available in this field. You might also wonder if or how much you're insurance will cover. Obviously, specific coverage depends on your employer and your policy. To find out specific insurance information, look at your employer's insurance contract. Your employer is required to let you read this information. Failure to provide you with this is a violation of federal law. The Employee Retirement, Insurance and Security Act is a federal mandate that states that you must be given access to a detailed account of your coverage. The contract is different from the summary of benefits. Once you've obtained the document, look at it to make sure the dates on the contract are accurate. Next, look for the section on 'exclusions' or 'procedures not covered.' If there's nothing excluding infertility treatment, look for the section on 'limits of coverage.' Photocopy the contract immediately as a safeguard against policy changes.
