Fire Burning Near Belden and Highway 70

Chips Fire Update 

The 25 acre Chips Fire was detected shortly after 1am, 2 miles northwest of Belden (and Hwy 70) along the Pacific Crest Trail (north and up the Chips Creek drainage). Hand crews (Hotshots) and helicopters will be working on the fire. A smoke plume may be visible as the day progresses. All campgrounds, highways, and local businesses are open. However, the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and PCT Equestrian Trail are closed from the Belden trailhead on Hwy 70 north to Hwy 36 west of Chester.

Peak Fire Update 

The 225 acre Peak Fire near Squaw Valley Peak area that was detected yesterday after 4pm, is now 60% contained. Full containment is expected at 6pm today. The fire is approximately 7 miles NE of Lake Davis. Firefighters will continue working the fire throughout the day with extended mop-up. Smoke and flare-ups will be visible.
