Halloween is over but there were costumes and coffins outside Congressman Wally Herger's Chico office Monday morning.
It was part of a dramatic health care protest staged by several local advocacy groups.
Dressed in black with white masks, protesters waved signs and shouted for Herger to support a public health care option.
Among the demonstrations was a mock funeral held every 12 minutes, meant to show how often a preventable death happens because of poor medical coverage.
"It isn't right that in the richest country in the world, 46 million people are without health care," said Georgie Summers, one of several speakers to address the crowd.
Herger was in Washington D.C. Monday, but his spokesperson tells Action News the theatrics show the protesters don't understand the issue.
"This is exactly a spectacle and the health care reform legislation that we're discussing right now is a lot more serious than that," said Fran Peace, Herger's District Director.
A democratic health care reform bill could go to vote as soon as Thursday.
Monday Herger introduced a resolution calling for congress and the public to be allowed to review the financial effects of any proposed health care legislation.
