A new report reveals that Lassen Volcanic National park near Mineral rates "fair" when it comes to the state of the park.  Action News visited the park Thursday for the release of the report from the National Parks Conservation Association.  The non-profit group says the park scored a 71 out of a possible 100 points.  Some of the challenges facing the park include the human impact on the ecosystem, and damage to wetlands.

Nationwide, the National Park Service has a backlog of eight billion dollars in maintenance projects waiting to be addressed, including some at Lassen.

Kari Kiser of the National Parks Conservation Association said "we need to have congress support our parks, and make them a place children can come and have programs and learn.  We need rangers here so every day they have a great experience."

This is the first time in nearly 40 years that a report like this has been completed on Lassen Volcanic National Park.  To read the full report log onto http://www.npca.org/stateoftheparks/lassen/
