Authorities in Modoc County continue to investigate a murder-suicide case that has left a two dead.
According to a press release, Alturas police officers were sent to a home on East 9th street to a report of a shooting around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
When they arrived, officers say the homeowner, 53-year-old Jim Sims III, drive away. After a short pursuit, police say Sims got out of the car at a church parking lot on West Car and shot himself.
Back at the home, investigators found Sim's 51-year-old wife, Marilyn and their 14-year-old son shot. Marilyn later died at Modoc Medical Center. The son is expected to survive.
Investigators say they are still trying to piece together what exactly went on inside the home at the time of the shooting.
