SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Bay Area Rapid Transit Agency plans to provide 24-hour train service if the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge remains closed.
BART officials say trains would run hourly to 14 stations overnight Friday and Saturday. The agency has no plans to run service overnight Sunday even if the bridge does not reopen.
BART normally ends service around midnight.
State transportation officials say the Bay Bridge will likely stay closed through the weekend and may not even reopen for the Monday morning commute.
The bridge was closed after two rods and a crossbar broke during the Tuesday evening rush hour, sending 5,000 pounds of steel crashing into traffic lanes.
