SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is calling a hidden message in one of his veto letters a "wild" coincidence.

Schwarzenegger on Friday responded for the first time about a profanity-laced phrase spelled out on the left-hand margin in his veto message to a state lawmaker who had heckled the governor at a San Francisco event.

The governor smiled as he told reporters at the White House, "That was a total coincidence. It was one of those wild coincidences."

The message was apparently targeted at San Francisco Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who was heard shouting "you lie" and other derogatory phrases when the governor gave a brief speech at a Democratic Party fundraiser.

Ammiano has called the governor's message a creative use of coincidence.
