LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California man has been sentenced to nearly eight years in federal prison for charging more than $1 million on fraudulently obtained credit cards.

Visanio Eugene Vann of Thousand Oaks was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge S. James Otero in Los Angeles, who also ordered the 47-year-old to pay $1,047,321 to eight banks that suffered losses.

Federal prosecutors say Vann used personal identifying information from dozens of mortgage and credit files to fraudulently obtain credit cards.

Vann pleaded guilty to three felony charges of mail fraud and aggravated identity theft last November.

In issuing the 95-month sentence, Otero considered Vann's lengthy criminal history, which includes fraud convictions going back 25 years.
