REDLANDS, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are looking for a 29-year-old woman who abandoned one of her children at the home of a Redlands man who took her in.

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Karen Hunt says Starla Coyl was last seen at the home of the unidentified man Wednesday morning. She told the man she needed to buy milk, taking her 1 1/2-year-old daughter with her and leaving behind a 7-month-old boy.

Hours later, the man reported the boy as abandoned, and the Department of Child Services took custody.

Officials said Coyl called them late Wednesday asking for her son, but refused to tell them her name.

Coyl has outstanding warrants for not appearing in court, but her initial offenses are unknown.
