Recap: Texas Tech vs. Texas

Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) - Julien Lewis scored 15 points, including the go-ahead basket in overtime, as the Texas Longhorns downed the Texas Tech Red Raiders 71-67 in a Big 12 Conference bout at United Spirit Arena.

J'Covan Brown added 14 points for Texas (18-11, 8-8 Big 12) while Myck Kabongo tallied 12 points and eight assists. Clint Chapman chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds for the Longhorns, who have won five of seven.

For Texas Tech (8-20, 1-15), Jaye Crockett led all scorers with 16 points while Javarez Willis and Jordan Tolbert put up 15 points each. Terran Petteway grabbed 10 rebounds for the Red Raiders, who have lost four in a row and 15 of their last 16.

Texas got out to a comfortable 33-22 lead at the break behind 42.9 percent field goal shooting. Texas Tech made only 9-of-24 field goals in the half and it went just 1-of-8 from three-point range.

The Red Raiders came storming back to tie the game at 41-41 with 10:41 left in the game on a Crockett dunk. The teams spent the rest of the second half exchanging leads and with 21 seconds left the Longhorns held a 59-55 advantage. Texas Tech responded with two free-throws from Tolbert and following a Texas turnover, Willis nailed a jumper to tie the game 59-59 and force an overtime period.

In the extra frame, Texas Tech led 67-61 with 2:21 left, but Texas scored the final 10 points of the game to capture the victory.

Neither team took good care of the ball, with the Red Raiders committing 20 turnovers and the Longhorns coughing it up 17 times.
