Recap: Seton Hall vs. Providence
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Brandon Mobley posted 16 points and nine rebounds as Seton Hall crushed Providence, 79-47, in the first round of the Big East Conference Tournament at Madison Square Garden.
Also scoring 16 points for the 10th-seeded Pirates (20-11) was Herb Pope, followed by Jordan Theodore who recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 13 assists. Fuquan Edwin tacked on 12 points and seven rebounds and Patrik Auda 11 points for Seton Hall. The Pirates advance to the second round of the tourney on Wednesday evening and will clash with seventh-seeded Louisville.
The 15th-seeded Friars (15-17) were paced by LaDontae Henton with 14 points and Bryce Cotton 10 in the setback. Vincent Council was held to just seven points on 2-of-13 shooting from the floor, adding five rebounds, five assists and four steals, but he was also guilty of six turnovers on the night.
The Seton Hall defense limited the Friars to just 8-of-32 shooting from the field in the first half, including 2-of-10 behind the three-point line, allowing the Pirates to take a comfortable 36-23 lead at the break.
In the second half it was more of the same as Providence connected on a mere 7-of-24 from the floor while the Pirates were knocking down 66.7 percent from the field in running away with the lopsided win.
Seton Hall finished the night shooting an impressive 56.0 percent from the field, including 9-of-19 behind the three-point line.Game Notes
