Recap: Buffalo vs. Ohio
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - D.J. Cooper scored 18 points and dished out nine assists as the No. 3-seed Ohio University Bobcats held off the second- seeded Buffalo Bulls to earn a 77-74 decision in a semifinal round matchup of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.
Reggie Keely added 14 points off the bench for Ohio (26-7), while T.J. Hall chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. Ivo Baltic and Walter Offutt both scored 10 points for the Bobcats, who will face the top-seeded Akron Zips in the championship game on Saturday.
Mitchell Watt paced Buffalo (19-10) with 32 points and 11 rebounds. Javon McCrea netted 12 points in the losing effort.
Ohio took a 46-35 lead into the intermission after it shot an even 50 percent from the floor and drained 10-of-19 attempts from distance in the opening period. The Bulls shot 42.9 percent from the floor, but managed to make only 1-of-10 from three-point range in the first half.
Buffalo battled back after the break by shooting 45.5 percent from the field while holding the Bobcats to 40.6 percent shooting. Ohio held a 55-40 lead with 17:51 left to play, but the Bulls went on a 13-0 run to make it a two- point game by the 15-minute mark. The Bobcats saw their lead grow back up to nine points, but Buffalo battled back once again. Jarod Oldham knocked down a jumper for the Bulls with 37 second left in regulation that left Ohio with a 77-74 advantage. Although the Bobcats missed all four of their free throw attempts from that point on, Buffalo turned the ball over and missed both of its potential game-tying three-point attempts.
The Bulls lost despite holding a 44-32 advantage in the rebounding battle. Ohio knocked down 12-of-25 from beyond the arc while Buffalo went 6-of-25 from distance.Game Notes
