Recap: BYU vs. Northern Ariz
Provo, UT (Sports Network) - Brandon Davies recorded a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds as the BYU Cougars crushed the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, 84-54, in non-conference play at the Marriott Center.
Davies, who shot 13-of-16 from the floor, added three steals as he played just 26 minutes for the Cougars (9-4) in their fourth win in the last five outings. Tyler Haws added 15 points and Raul Delgado tacked on 11 points as he converted 3-of-5 behind the 3-point line off the bench.
The Lumberjacks (4-8) were paced by Michael Dunn who tallied 17 points in 19 minutes off the bench as the starting five combined to shoot only 14-of-43 from the floor in the team's third straight setback. Gabe Rogers, who finished with eight points, shot just 2-of-13 from the field and was saddled with 10 turnovers.
NAU led by a basket early on in the meeting, but the team ended up shooting just 30 percent from the field in the first half, including 2-of-9 beyond the arc, en route to a 48-23 deficit at the break. The Cougars made good on an impressive 52.8 percent from the floor over the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half BYU dipped to just 39.4 percent accuracy from the field and 6-of-12 at the free-throw line, yet still cruised to the comfortable 30-point home win.
Not only did the hosts outscore Northern Arizona in the paint by a 40-18 margin, the Cougars also forced the visitors into a total of 24 turnovers along the way as well.Game Notes
