Recap: Youngstown St vs. Valparaiso
Youngstown, OH (Sports Network) - Behind double-double from Kendrick Perry, the Youngstown State Penguins earned an 80-68 Horizon League win over the Valparaiso Crusaders at the Beeghly Center.
Perry tallied 28 points and 11 rebounds for YSU (13-8, 5-3 Horizon), which won its fourth game in a row. Kamren Belin just missed a double-double of his own with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Damian Eargle added 11 points and three steals before fouling out.
Valpo (16-6, 6-2) saw its six-game winning streak come to an end despite having four players score in double-figures, led by 14 points from Kevin Wijk. LaVonte Dority added 13 points off the bench, while Ryan Broekhoff and Erik Buggs managed 10 points each. Broekhoff also grabbed a team-high eight boards.
The Penguins held Valpo to 34.5 percent shooting from the field in the first half, including just 2-of-15 from 3-point range, as they took a 39-28 lead into intermission. YSU opened up the game on a 21-9 run.
In the second half, YSU shot 55.0 percent from the field, which helped it lead the game wire-to-wire.
