Rays, Rodriguez avoid arbitration

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Rays have avoided arbitration with Sean Rodriguez, signing the utilityman to a one-year, $1 million deal.

Rodriguez, Tampa Bay's Opening Day shortstop last season, appeared in 112 games for the Rays last season and hit .213 to go along six home runs, 32 RBI, 36 runs scored and a ,607 OPS in 378 plate appearances.

The 28-year-old Rodriguez, who can play alomst anywhere on the field, is a career .225 hitter in 432 games for the Rays and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
